Updates on my monthly spending
I’ve been falling behind on all kinds of things here, including my monthly spending posts. I came in under budget twice since July, which is 10 months. Not so good. Living in town has meant I can more easily find … Continue reading

Living allowance: June
This was a rough month. I spent too much on groceries, too much on clothing, and too much on eating out. This was partly Bushfire’s fault, but the food there is totally worth going over budget.
How I spent March’s living allowance
I ran out of money in March, too. It’s a trend in the PCV life, especially when I am 100 percent a cheese boy (well, girl, in this case). I didn’t even buy cheese with March’s money, but I did … Continue reading

How I spent February’s living allowance
In short, I spent more than the month’s allowance by about E700. Half of that came from extra trips to town and the Peace Corps office to prepare paperwork for my extension. The other half was spent on food, which … Continue reading

How I spent January’s living allowance
The answer to this question is easy: on vacation. I reflected some of those costs here, but in truth, I easily spent the entire allowance on my trip. I just tallied the costs listed here, and they are a few … Continue reading

African money collecting
I do not recall how my money collection initially started, but for 15 years or so, it has been fun adding to the collection. One of my uncles is a regular contributor with money from his own travels. I am … Continue reading

How I spent December’s living allowance
I stayed well under budget in the normal expenses of December, but I ate out four times and mailed two packages for Christmas that took a ridiculously long time to get to the U.S. I also tried to shop ahead … Continue reading

How I spent September’s PCV stiped
I started spending September’s living allowance the day we got paid in August. Albeit two trips to the office, purchasing lots of food, and lots of transport for Umhlanga, I still came in under budget. I still ran out of … Continue reading

How I spent August’s PCV stipend
I did not buy as much in August as I usually do because there were so many other things going on. I had four trips out of site to the office and/or PST. I had a full month of siSwati … Continue reading

How I spent July’s PCV stipend
July was a much more expensive month. I took a vacation to Lesotho and Durban, and I had saved enough money that I was able to spend only $50 from my American account. Yay me! There was lots of good … Continue reading
